This presentation is a part of the ENE Nurses Notes™ lecture series - an ongoing series of short lectures that explores the nuances of nursing and aims to share the knowledge of experienced nurses with their peers and the nursing community at large. This Updates in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Migraines lecture covers: 

  • which headache types are consistent with migraine and which are not
  • the basic pathophysiology of migraine
  • evidence-based treatment options of migraine
  • when neurogimaging is appropriate in patients with headache

Presenter:

Calli Cook, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Emory's Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and a Nurse Practitioner at the Emory Brain Health Center. She has worked in various settings caring for patients with neurological conditions and was appointed to the American Academy of Neurology’s Headache Quality Measures task force, which works to create quality measures in headache medicine. Calli's doctoral work focused on quality improvement and used provider directed education to reduce unnecessary testing. Calli serves as the Chair of the Consortium of Neurology Advanced Practice Providers (APP) within the American Academy of Neurology and Co-Chair of the Neurology Specialty Practice Group within the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Her top objectives while serving in these roles are to improve professional development and education of neurology APPs. Calli is committed to the role of neuroscience and by focusing on these key factors she feels that both patient care and satisfaction can be improved.
