Course Description:

Human lactation and breastfeeding is amazing! From providing nutrition and nourishment to bolstering the fragile immune system of a newborn baby, breastfeeding is a gift that mothers give their offspring. And very often, unless we are unable or unwilling to breastfeed, we tend to take it for granted. In the Human Lactation and Breastfeeding course, we will explore this biological wonder and understand how it works, how it changes, and how to breastfeed most effectively for both mother and baby.

This course was created by Dr. Chiemi Ura, Certified Nurse Midwife, Family Nurse Practitioner and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Chiemi is a native to Atlanta, GA and has served thousands of mothers and families during her 10 years of practice. Currently, Chiemi is dedicated to the care of gynecological and obstetric women at Grady Memorial Hospital. In addition, she has had the opportunity to work for a local private practice where she was able to provide hydrotherapy and waterbirth. Chiemi has been an integral part to Emory's School of Nursing and School of Medicine where she often has the opportunity to teach as a faculty member.

This course is ideal for nurses looking to brush up on their knowledge of breastfeeding as well as a good introduction to those working on their Lactation Consultant Certification.

Emory Nursing Professional Development Center (ENPDC) is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.  Attendees to this CNE activity will be awarded 3 contact hours by ENPDC.
