Course Description:

In this course, we'll cover the assessment of skin breakdown risk and the establishment of protocols to mitigate this risk. The course is ideal for nurses looking to brush up on their knowledge of the skin as well as for those working on renewing their Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Certification.

This course has been created by Emory’s Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Education Center (WOCNEC). Accredited since 1976, Emory WOCNEC provides nursing education related to acute and chronic wounds, fecal and urinary diversions, and fecal and urinary incontinence.

Target Audience: All RN's interested in understanding more about pressure injury prevention protocols.

Objectives:

  1. Identify key persons in establishing a multidisciplinary protocol for prevention and management of skin breakdown
  2. Explain the rationale for risk assessment on admission and at routine intervals and identify patient populations to be included
  3. Utilize a research-based risk assessment tool to accurately determine a specific patient’s risk status
  4. Describe guidelines for pressure injury prevention

Emory Nursing Professional Development Center (ENPDC) is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.  Attendees to this CNE activity will be awarded 2.5 contact hours by ENPDC.
